Raashid Gulzar Khan, a seasoned martial arts coach and founder of Star Sports Academy, is emerging as a beacon of inspiration from Sonerwani, North Kashmir. His relentless efforts are shaping the future of young athletes and contributing to society in remarkable ways.
With eight national gold medals across disciplines like kickboxing, jujitsu, silambam, ball badminton, and wushu, Raashid stands as a living example of excellence and discipline. But beyond his personal accolades, his true legacy lies in empowering the youth of Kashmir’s tribal belt.
His academy has consistently produced medal-winning athletes at state and national levels. One of the most notable milestones came recently when his trainee, Zeeshan Tahir, was selected for an international martial arts event in Sri Lanka.
As a National Gold Medalist in kickboxing, jujitsu, silambam, ball badminton, and wushu, Raashid holds eight national titles. His expertise has transformed many young lives, preparing them to shine in state and national championships.
His most recent success includes Zeeshan Tahir's selection for an international event in Sri Lanka, a proud moment that showcases the potential of underrepresented athletes when given proper guidance.
Raashid is deeply involved in empowering children from tribal villages of Bandipora, providing them with training, exposure, and discipline through sports. He says, “Main tribal areas ke bachchon ko support kar raha hoon, unmein talent hai, bas sahi direction ki zarurat hai.”
“I’ve trained many children from tribal backgrounds. Some of them are now national gold medallists. That’s the real victory,” Raashid shared with pride
As part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drug-Free India Campaign), Raashid is also organising cricket, football, kickboxing, and martial arts events to raise awareness and promote a healthy, addiction-free lifestyle. His mission is to help build a drug-free Bandipora through the power of sports.
His inspiring work is not just building athletes but also shaping responsible, confident, and strong youth across Kashmir’s remote belts.
