Shopian, September 18: Tightening the noose around the financial networks allegedly linked to narcotics trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir Police in Shopian have attached a residential house valued at ₹16.56 lakh and frozen/seized ₹4.73 lakh in cash under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
According to police, the action was taken against property and cash identified as having been acquired through proceeds allegedly generated from the illegal trade of drugs and narcotics.
The attached residential house, constructed on 1,065 square feet of land bearing Khasra/Survey No. 1327, is located at Melhura village in Shopian. Police said the property, valued at ₹16,56,385, belongs to Farooq Ahmad Shah, adopted son of Ghulam Hassan Shah, resident of Melhura.
In addition to the property, police froze/seized ₹4,73,500 in cash as part of the proceedings.
The action has been carried out under Section 68-F(1) of the NDPS Act in connection with FIR No. 58/2024 of Police Station Zainapora.
Police said the attachment and freezing proceedings were conducted in the presence of a duly constituted police team, an Executive Magistrate, Lambardar and Chowkidar, with the stated objective of ensuring compliance with prescribed legal procedures and maintaining transparency.
